What modelling agencies and casting directors look for
A casting lasts a few minutes, but it tells a client a lot. These are the things that matter most beyond how you look.

A go-see is a short meeting where a client or agency simply wants to see you in person. A casting is for a specific job. The same rules apply to both.
Being on time and prepared
Castings run to tight schedules. Arrive a little early, know the client's name and the job, and bring what your agent asked for: usually your book or tablet, comp cards and the right shoes. Being prepared tells the client you will be easy to work with on set.
Looking like your pictures
Clients book from your book and digitals. If you have changed your hair or your look, tell your agent before the casting so your materials can be updated. Surprises on the day rarely help.
A relaxed, real presence
Most clients are not looking for a pose. They want to see your personality and how you hold yourself when you walk in, say hello and stand in front of the camera. Calm and natural usually works better than trying too hard.
Taking direction
You may be asked to walk, turn, change your expression or try a movement. Listen, try it, and ask if something is unclear. Showing that you can adjust quickly is often what decides a booking.
Professional manners
- Keep your phone away while you wait.
- Be polite to everyone in the room, including assistants.
- Do not discuss fees or schedules with the client. That is your agent's job.
After the casting
Let your agent know how it went and anything you were asked. You will often not hear back, and that is normal. Each casting builds experience and relationships.
